Glenbuchat Circular – Little Geal Charn

Distance 14 kms. Ascent 510 metres OS Map 37

This walk starts from the road to Glenbuchat Lodge and heads west on a decent track for a short distance until we cross the Coulins Burn. From here we follow an indistinct path that takes us close to a 647 point before heading up the easy slopes to the flat topped Little Geal Charn. Then it is over the trackless open hillside, passing Geal Charn to a 683 point before heading east to Caochandye Hill. We now drop a few metres before climbing onto Crespet Hill. Allt Sowan Hill is the next target, before an easy descent passing Ryntaing and then joining the track that leads us past Badenyon and back to the starting point.

Total Time: Approx. 6 hrs

Note: This walk has quite a few sections of open moorland, often rough and boggy and requires a reasonable level of fitness. The walk would be unsuitable if there is heavy snow on the hill, in the moor or if access roads are icy, in which case a contingency walk will be offered instead.

Meet at Culter Village Hall at 8:30 am, return around 5–6 pm.
Transport by car (drivers required) – contribution to drivers please, refreshments afterwards (TBA).
Contact Liz or Graham Neish Tel: 01224-743882. Closing date Wednesday 1st May 2013.

Walkers must wear walking boots (gaiters also recommended), carry WARM and waterproof clothing, hat and gloves and take plenty of food and liquids. THESE ARE ESSENTIAL. Be prepared for possible wintry conditions on the top, whatever the forecast.
