Ladder Hills

Distance 10.5miles+ Ascent 300 metres OS map 37

We park the cars at GR335170. The first part of the ascent is through forest, before we reach open country heading on track towards Moss Hill. However, this is not out target, as we skirt round it to descend briefly to a very small lochan on a track. From this track, we climb again to spot height 639 to reach another track where we turn left. This track takes us to a col between Little Geal Charn and Dun Muir. From the col, we climb gently off track to the summit of Dun Muir. Hopefully there will be time to continue along the broad ridge to Carn Mor (804m) before turning back to the col and descending to a track which skirts Finlate Hill and continues to the ruin of the picturesquely-named Duffdefiance. Our path now returns to the forest; we pass the Lost Gallery, admiring its sculptures on the way, and turn left just after this to return to the start of our original route and the way back to the cars.
