Sunday 6th March

Coyles of Muick

Distance 8m, 13k; Ascent 1200ft, 360m; OS map 44

GR NO341952 Starting Point

From the start point we will follow the forest track past Loch Ullachie, a popular fishing place with royals and osprey when in residence; a gradual climb takes us nearly on to the plateau. From there we will follow a fence line for a short distance and then cross the moorland to take in the first summit of the day, Meall Dubh, then over to The Coyles of Muick. Given good weather as we had on the recce, we should be rewarded with spectacular views in every direction. From the last summit we will backtrack a short distance to pick up a track and start our return leg all through beautiful sheltered forest tracks to Birkhall, finishing with two short bits on tarred road.

Walkers must wear walking boots, carry WARM and waterproof clothing, hat and gloves and take plenty food and liquids. THESE ARE ESSENTIAL. Be prepared for possible wintry conditions and snow on the top whatever the forecast.

Meet at Culter Village Hall 8.30am, return around 5pm
