Ben Vrackie (841m)

Length: 14km

Ascent ~800m (total)

OS map 43/52

Ben Vrackie (NN951632) is a lovely hill with a rocky summit rising above of the moors behind Pitlochry. It is famous for its wonderful views. Our route will start from just north of the Moulin Hotel and will be on track/path most of the way to the top of the hill. However, be warned: the final stretch is steep. Given favourable conditions, after enjoying the views we can descend a little and then head across country north-westwards to take in Meall an Daimh (NN939641 722m). From there it will be downhill to join a path that will lead us back to Moulin and possibly some refreshment at the hotel there.

Important: We are thinking of using the Westhill minibus for this trip, taking a maximum of 15 people (including Ali as driver), which would give us flexibility to have a meal in Moulin after the walk if we so wish. However, if numbers interested are much higher, then we shall use a First coach as normal. A decision will have to be made by Sunday 25th June at the latest, so please make your booking asap. If we decide to take the minibus then any extra last-minute bookings would require use of cars.

Walkers must wear walking boots, carry warm and waterproof clothing, hat and gloves and take plenty food and liquids. THESE ARE ESSENTIAL. Be prepared for possible wintry conditions on the top whatever the time of year.

Bus leaves Culter Village Hall 7.45am return by around 7.30pm
BUS FEE: £10 members, £12 guests
