Carn a’ Mhaim
Carn a’ Mhaim is the narrow mountain across the Lairig Ghru from Devil’s Point. At 1037m, it is far from being one of the highest Munros in the Cairngorms, but will probably feel steep enough... The walk starts from the Linn of Dee carpark past Braemar and follows the well-worn track to Derry Lodge. From here it goes west, crosses the Lui burn (bridge available), then turns uphill on a path, ascending steeply to the southeastern top, then to the true summit (11km, 700m ascent).
From here, we can retrace our steps for the shortest return, or, if feeling keen, we can continue NW and descend by Allt Carn a’ Mhaim, but this will add 5km, rough ground and a potentially tricky burn crossing to the day. Unlike the other Sunday walks, this walk will not be reccied. Estimated walk time 8hrs shortest route.
Walkers must wear walking boots, carry WARM and waterproof clothing, hat and gloves and take plenty food and liquids. THESE ARE ESSENTIAL. Be prepared for possible wintry conditions on top whatever the forecast.
Meet at Culter Village Hall 7am, return around 7-8pm
