( A WALK ) BEN AVON (strenuous)

OS Map Landranger 36 43

Distance 36 km 22.5 miles Ascent 1000m (circular route) or 34km 21ml 800m for there and back route if favoured

(transport shared CARS)

We start at Keiloch (189916) and walk through the woods and then up Glen Slugain to the ruin. Thereafter northwards on a rough boggy path to a high point at Clash a Clerich 114992 we continue our ascent up to the sneck and then steeply head N.E onto the summit of Ben Avon with its interesting tor. We then walk over to the next tor at 137025. On our descent we pick up the burn and follow it down, this is off path and very wet and involves crossing over from time to time, this eventually brings us to a rough indistinct path which meets the path at 156996 .The route leads eastwards to a another path at 173999 at this point we cross the river (some one has kindly left planks of wood across it) Our final route back takes us along the main landrover track west of Culardoch and back to Keiloch. This is a circular option, which involves quite a lot of burn crossing and strenuous return route with a good amount of ascent. It can be a wet and boggy walk with steep sections this could take about 12 hours Alternatively we can ascend Ben Avon and return the same route which slightly less strenuous on the return as we shall have a little more path, however this will still take over 11 hours to complete please call to discuss your preferences with us.

MEET KEILOCH CAR PARK INVERCAULD 8.15am for 8.30 start (note there may be few places open for eating after 9pm)
